Privacy.

Sill is a taskbar that runs on your Mac. Most of what it does never leaves your computer. This page lists everything that does, and how long it's kept.

On your Mac

Sill asks for Accessibility (to focus, minimize, and close windows) and Screen Recording (to show window thumbnails in previews). Thumbnails are made on your Mac, kept in memory for a few seconds, and never saved or sent. Your settings stay on your Mac; if you sign in, your session is kept in your Mac's Keychain.

While Sill runs it sets the Dock to hide itself, and puts your Dock settings back when it quits.

Sill has no analytics, advertising, or tracking.

Crash reports

If Sill crashes, macOS writes a crash report on your Mac. The next time Sill opens, it sends that report to us, along with the app and macOS versions. It also reports when an update fails to download or install (not when you're offline or there's simply no update).

Before sending, Sill removes your account name, full name, home-folder paths, and the identifiers macOS puts in crash reports. Reports aren't linked to your account or install ID. We use them only to find and fix bugs, and delete them after 90 days.

To stop sending them, turn off Send crash reports in Settings → About.

If you create an account

We store your name, email, and password (as a salted hash; we can't read it), and when you created the account. While you're signed in, the app checks your account every six hours to confirm what you own. That check sends a random ID made for your install (not your computer's name or serial number), the app version, and which add-ons are installed.

Feedback

When you send feedback we store your message, the category you chose, the app and macOS versions, the random install ID (from the app), and your email if you're signed in or typed one in. We use it to fix problems and reply to you, and keep it until it's no longer needed or you ask us to delete it.

Donations and purchases

Donations are handled by Stripe. You don't need an account. Stripe asks for your card and an email for the receipt; we can see the amount and that email in Stripe, never your card details. Stripe's use of your data is covered by Stripe's privacy policy.

Add-ons aren't for sale yet. When they are, Stripe will handle those payments too, and we'll keep a record of what you bought and the amount so your purchase works on your Macs.

Recording add-on

When the Recording & Transcription add-on arrives, recordings and transcripts will be made and kept on your Mac. Transcription uses macOS's on-device speech recognition, and AI summaries use a model running on your own Mac. Audio isn't uploaded.

Updates and downloads

Every few hours the app downloads a small update list from this site. Like any web server, ours logs the IP address and time of those requests and of page visits. We use those logs only to keep the service running and to stop abuse.

This website

The site doesn't use cookies or third-party scripts, and its fonts are served from this site. If you sign in here, your session is kept in your browser's local storage until you sign out. The donation button sends you to Stripe's checkout page.

Deleting your data

To delete your account and everything linked to it, sign in and send a request through the feedback form using the email on the account. Crash reports delete themselves after 90 days.

Changes

If what Sill collects changes, this page changes first, and the date at the top is updated.
